INSPIRE THE MAGIC TO HAPPEN || Inspiration & Quotes

header22

Sunday inspiration is here! But before that, I have decided to introduce you with the books that are going through my must-read list.

As I mentioned in my first post of these quote series – I am reading some design and creativity related books and sharing my favorite quotes once in a while.

All of my must-reads you can find for free. And here are the books that I’ve already mentioned or that are meant to be mentioned [soon]:
The Freelancer Handbook – Time Management – The Year Without Pants – Marketing & Conversion – Breaking The Time Barrier – What Matters now – and some other that I’ll share eventually. But now – time for quotes! This time – more about creativity and management.

LETS BE FRIENDS! OK? || Design & Clients

header17

I’m still just starting out, especially – working with clients – and I got in all this pretty blindfolded, just with the belief that I want to try, but… there are questions rising and they’re coming up fast!

I know that working with clients is harder than making banner for my own Facebook page or creating cool image for twitter… And I enjoy it! I really do and it was my main point why I decided to get into graphic design more seriously than trying out Photoshop for my own entertainment. I like to get clear brief and then do my best to try to look at my designs from a point of view that would be related to my clients. I like to challenge myself and learn with every new task. And the rest of all good things.

BUT.

There is always this ‘but’, right? It’s just supposed to be there…

FLOATING THROUGH FONT OCEANS || Design & Typography

header15

Have you ever been struggling with fonts, especially when they are necessary for some more expressive design – poster that catches attention, greeting card that speaks for itself, billboard that can’t go unnoticed? Is the answer – always? I believe it is… at least for me. Ever since I started to explore design, Typography has been the greatest pleasure and the most annoying hours all in one.

So I’ve started something that (hopefully) will help myself and maybe some of my readers will find it useful as well.

Every now and then I’ll explore some new fonts (at this point – through dafont.com), make a poster out of them that I can keep just right in front of me and whenever there will be decision to made – dilemma will be much more easy resolvable. Well… at least I have this hope!

SUNDAY SNEAK PEEK|| Design & Process

header14

Some time ago I made an offer – to make fee-free design elements for bloggers, so I can practice in this field. Headers, logo, buttons, photos, whatever was necessary. Jadirah with her blog Jasmine Catches Butterflies was one of the first ones who got interested and she agreed that I tell about our cooperation process in this post. Thank you, Jadirah! :)

Goal was to make header that reflects blog ideas. Since it’s beauty, fashion and lifestyle blog, I tried to keep feminine, joyful and easy going sight. First ideas from Jadirah were to use elements like butterflies, perfume… she also liked idea about geometrical elements and simple colors – the ones that she already used in her blog – blue, pink and black.

MUST… READ… IT… ALL… || Inspiration & Quotes

header13

I have this strange addiction – I adore books.

Like… I would read them 24/7, if I could, I would spend all my money only for books, I would buy books instead of food and more books instead of place to live. Basically – I would do everything just to have at least some books around me all the time.

I love to read in latvian and they definitely need to be paper books, but I’ve come to conclusion that it would be impossible to survive this way. There is this truly heartbreaking story about how I tried to survive without latvian books for altogether almost a year abroad, when I had no place to keep them and no place to buy them… But this one I’ll keep for some other time.

Only a process of holding a paper book will be the real reading for me, but recently I overcame myself and decided to start reading digital material that some people still tend to call a ‘book’. For the sake of design, I found some ‘must reads’ (free for starters). There are many resources to find such books, so I looked them through and saved the ones that could cross my point of interest and just changed from reading twitter to reading books.

The thing that I’m trying to say with all this is that I started to gather quotes from those books that I will eventually reveal to you. Lets just start here!

HI, WEB DESIGN, LETS BE FRIENDS|| Adobe Muse

header8

There is this thing… I rebuilt my blog some time ago to link it with how I enter the  world of Graphic design (well, this sounds way too poetic…). To tell you about my struggles and challenges, about my ups and downs, boring and very much more boring (okay, no, I’m kidding, of course) skill testing through more and more Graphic design ‘gigs’.

And there I was – I woke up one morning with this strange urge – I’m doing something wrong… I’ve this ‘new’ blog for 2 weeks already and absolutely no posts about Graphic design or whatsoever.

So here I am, telling you all about my experience with something bit aside from usual Photoshop stuff (that I haven’t told you about yet…) – story about how I met Adobe Muse for the very first time!
